Pasture Recovery for flood damaged areas:

Plan pasture recovery based on your farms  feed requirement for the upcoming winter and following spring and summer.

Create a recovery plan using an appropriate mix of short term and permanent pastures. Contact your local Agricom Agronomist for more information.

    Insect Watch

Red headed cockchafer are active on-farm. If you see uprooted plants, especially ryegrass, in a paddock that is being grazed, you should dig a spade square and check for cockchafer grubs.
The grubs feed on organic and root material in the top 100 mm of soil. When many larvae are present, pasture root systems are cut about 25mm below the soil.
Pest management suggestions of existing pasture include rolling damp, infested pastures and pasture grazing management to discourage the laying of eggs into long pasture.
Normal pasture management principles should apply to encourage 2.5 – 3 leaves before grazing and grazing residual height of about 5cm between.
While no endophyte currently protects against the grubs, deep-rooted plants such as lucerne, cocksfoot and phalaris, are less susceptible to damage.
